Elizabeth Shubbar

MBACP, MA, BSc (Hons), PGDip Integrative Counsellor and Psychotherapist.

I am a BACP registered Integrative Psychotherapist and Counsellor, working with adults aged 16 years and over. My MA incorporated training in CBT, the Humanistic approach and the Psychodynamic philosophy. I am also informed by Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) and the significance of utilising ‘mindfulness’ and psychoeducation. With the firm foundation of the therapeutic relationship, I work relationally and am able to adapt my approach in accordance to an individual’s goals, needs and preferences.

I understand that life presents us with debilitating challenges. This could be in response to a specific event, present ongoing existential anxieties or in response to long-term, complex struggles that you have been trying to manage alone. My approach is to listen and truly understand your difficulties and to collaboratively work together with you. I believe that a therapeutic relationship, based on trust, plays a fundamental role within the healing process. I have been told that I am warm, empathic and approachable. My aim is to provide a supportive, confidential and non-judgemental space where you not only feel able to safely explore how you feel, but are gently supported to gain a greater understanding of yourself and obtain a renewed clarity. Together, we will identify your goals and your own powerful resources, thereby facilitating you to move forwards, in a more positive direction.

Experience

I have 20 years of experience of working within the NHS, as a Nurse, Midwife and Health Visitor. In addition, I have worked at the Priory hospital and a GP surgery as a Psychotherapist and Counsellor and presently work in private practice.

I have experience of working with anxiety, depression, trauma, shame and self-criticism, low self-esteem and emotional abuse. I am also interested in the dynamics of relationships and working with the challenges that emerge, with others and ourselves. Furthermore, acknowledging that some of these patterns may have arisen from earlier experiences.

I have extensive experience and a specialist interest in women’s health incorporating pre and post pregnancy and those who are struggling with postnatal depression. Furthermore, the peri-menopause and menopause which can be emotionally immense and disabling.

Further experience incorporates bereavement

As a member of the BACP (MBACP), I adhere to their ethical framework.
