MBACP, DipHE Humanistic Counselling

So why Counselling?

Life can throw up many challenges and we can find ourselves feeling anxious, overwhelmed and exhausted. As an experienced Humanistic Counsellor, I believe that we all have the power to make our lives better but there are times when we may need to seek some help. I would like to offer you a safe space to explore what’s going on for you, offering my warmth and acceptance, so that you feel seen and heard.

My aim as your Counsellor would be to help you develop greater self-awareness, understand how your past can impact your present and empower you to make changes that will really make a difference. Perhaps the coping strategies that have served you well up to now are in need of an overhaul. Maybe you feel like you have been coasting for years and don’t recognise yourself anymore. You may have been putting other people’s needs before your own for so long it’s difficult to identify what you want and ask for what you need. Letting go of these old ways of being can feel liberating and we are left feeling empowered, resilient and more connected. I believe the therapeutic relationship can be deeply healing and I look forward to working with you to find a way forward.

What my clients say:

“Georgie’s therapy sessions have been transformative for me. I sought help to manage my anxiety, particularly surrounding my wife’s pregnancy, and to regain a sense of carefree living. Through her guidance, I’ve learned invaluable techniques to handle negative thoughts and navigate life’s challenges with more ease. I wholeheartedly recommend Georgie to anyone seeking compassionate and effective therapy.”

“Georgie has been a breath of fresh air in grounding some of my conflicting thoughts. Throughout my short time I have been able to broaden my thoughts and acknowledge more of myself with greater clarity.”

“Over the time period that I had sessions with Georgie, I really felt like she made the effort to truly understand how I was feeling in a situation that many others couldn’t. And not only was she able to empathise with my situation, but also recognise the traits that I have as a person that were ultimately prolonging my healing. I can now say that I’m in a much better place than I was when I first started my sessions and thanks to Georgie and her care to really look at all options and ways of dealing with grief, I have been able to try and move forward in a healthy way.”

Experience

Experience

I have experience working with a wide range of client issues including – anxiety, panic attacks, bereavement, family dynamics and relational issues, low self-esteem, depression, adjusting to life changes and feeling stuck.

Training

I hold a Diploma with Distinction in Humanistic Counselling from the University of Chichester. Person Centred theory lies at the heart of my approach. My training also allows me to draw on a breadth of other Humanistic approaches including Transactional Analysis, Gestalt and Attachment Theory. My most recent training with Relate has brought a more relational focus to how I work, being rooted in Systemic and Psychodynamic theory.

Professional Accrediting Body

As a registered member of the BACP, I adhere to their Ethical Framework, and I have regular supervision to support my counselling practice. I am committed to keeping my skills and training up to date, attending workshops and courses as often as I can.

What to expect when you make contact:

Once you’ve made the decision to start therapy, making that first step can be daunting. I aim to respond to all enquiries within 24 hours, so you won’t be left waiting. This is what will happen if you make an enquiry:

I will offer you a free 20 min consultation via Zoom, so that I can understand what brings you to Counselling and also so that we can both decide whether we think we can work together. The Counselling process is collaborative and feeling comfortable with your therapist is essential. We are all so different and what suits one person, might not suit another. I won’t be offended if you decide me or my approach isn’t for you. It’s also important that what you are bringing is within the limits of my expertise. Some client issues need specialist help. If this is the case I will do my best to signpost you to get the help you need.

If we both decide we’d like to proceed I will book our first session. We will decide on a time to meet at the same time each week. Sessions are 50 mins. I currently have availability on Monday evenings in Godalming and daytime availability in Farnham on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.

Our first session:

At the start of our first session, we will talk through my contract together and we’ll both sign. This isn’t a lengthy document, but important to make you aware of confidentiality and the exceptions, data protection etc. We will also establish a goal for our work together. This is something that we will keep checking in on throughout the process, with a review at six weeks. The length of the process is up to you and we will work towards an ending when you feel you are ready to. Each process is entirely different, with some clients wanting short term therapy and others wishing to work longer term. Sometimes it isn’t clear until we get started.
