MBACP Counsellor and Psychotherapist

My Professional Story

My journey into counselling began with my own experience as a child receiving counselling. Experiencing the benefits of having a safe space to talk openly and honestly, without judgement, had a lasting impact on me and planted the seed for the work I do today.

Alongside this, I have spent over 20 years working in caring professions, always feeling drawn towards supporting others. Throughout that time, I have seen the difference it can make when someone feels genuinely heard, accepted, and supported. Counselling felt like a natural progression of those experiences and values.

At the heart of my work is a belief in the power of human connection. There is something incredibly meaningful about being alongside someone during difficult times, offering a space where they can explore their thoughts and feelings freely and without fear of judgement.

My Approach

For me, the therapeutic relationship is at the core of everything. I believe that meaningful counselling begins with building a genuine, trusting relationship where clients feel safe enough to be themselves.

I understand that trust takes time and cannot be rushed. I work collaboratively with clients, allowing the relationship to develop naturally and always respecting their pace. My role is not to tell people what to do or to provide quick fixes, but to create a space where they feel heard, understood, and supported as they explore their experiences.

I work in a way that is warm, accepting, and non-judgemental, recognising that every person’s story is unique.

What It Is Like to Work with Me

Clients often describe me as warm, supportive, open, and honest. I aim to offer a calm and safe environment where people feel able to share whatever they need to bring into the room, without embarrassment, shame, or fear of judgement.

My style is gentle, reflective, and curious. I listen carefully and create space for clients to explore their thoughts and feelings at their own pace. As trust develops, I may offer gentle challenge to help clients deepen their understanding of themselves and their experiences.

I also believe that counselling does not have to be entirely serious all of the time. Where appropriate, I bring a soft sense of humour into the work, helping clients feel at ease while maintaining respect for the challenges they are facing.

Who I Work With

I work with both young people and adults, welcoming a wide range of experiences and concerns.

Rather than focusing solely on a particular issue, I focus on the person in front of me and what they bring into the room. I believe that building a strong therapeutic relationship provides the foundation for meaningful exploration and growth, regardless of the presenting issue.

Where a client’s needs may require more specialist support, I believe in working collaboratively and transparently to explore the most appropriate way forward.

What I Believe About Change

I believe that change begins with understanding ourselves more deeply.

When we develop greater self-awareness, we can begin to understand our patterns, recognise where they may have come from, and consider how we want to move forward. Alongside this understanding comes the opportunity to develop self-compassion, self-acceptance, and a greater sense of self-worth.

I believe that growth often involves facing difficult feelings rather than avoiding them. Through a safe therapeutic relationship, clients can begin to explore these experiences, build resilience, strengthen their inner resources, and create lasting change in their lives.

My Values

The values that guide my practice are:

• Relationship and trust
• Authenticity
• Respect
• Compassion
• Non-judgement
• Professional boundaries
• Ethical practice
• Safeguarding
• Confidentiality within professional and ethical limitations

These values form the foundation of my work and shape the way I engage with every client.

What I Will Not Compromise On

I believe that effective counselling requires trust, safety, and a strong therapeutic relationship. I will always maintain professional boundaries and work within ethical frameworks to protect the wellbeing of clients.

I am committed to offering a respectful, accepting, and non-judgemental space where clients can be themselves. At the same time, I recognise the importance of safeguarding responsibilities and the limits of confidentiality, and I approach these areas with openness, honesty, and professionalism.

Core Practice Statement

I believe counselling should offer a safe, accepting space where a trusting therapeutic relationship is at the heart of the work, allowing clients to explore their experiences and move towards change at their own pace.

Experience

As part of my counselling training and practice, I volunteered with Youthline, a Bracknell-based counselling service supporting young people and their careers. Over a period of 16 months, I provided both short-term and longer-term therapeutic support to clients facing a wide range of challenges, including anxiety, depression, low confidence and self-worth, trauma, relationship issues, and difficulties connected to school and education.

I hold a BACP Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling and am currently working towards my Level 5 Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling at Mindspace Foundation, further developing my knowledge and skills to provide effective, compassionate, and ethically informed support to clients.
