Maithili Guise Tucker

Psychodynamic Psychotherapist, MBACP, MSc, BMedSc (Hons).

I’m Maithili (pronounced “mightily”) – I’m a psychodynamic psychotherapist.

Psychodynamic simply means we think about how your past experiences and relationships may influence how you feel, behave and connect with others today. Alongside this, I draw on a range of evidence-based approaches, so we can explore your thoughts and emotions from different angles to find what feels supportive and meaningful to you.

I work with people navigating anxiety, depression, trauma and major life transitions, paying close attention to how identity, culture and lived experience shape emotional life. I specialise in supporting clients around gender identity and sexuality, race and culture and those from marginalised or minoritised communities, where experiences of difference, exclusion or belonging often intersect with trauma, shame and anxiety. These themes form a significant and ongoing part of my clinical practice and underpin my academic writing and research. Reflecting this focus I am a registered member of BAATN and Pink Therapy.

Working Together

My approach is shaped by close attention to how people come to understand themselves, their histories and their relationships, particularly where patterns of harm, shame or disconnection have taken hold. My client base and experience spans a wide range of ages and life stages, working with diverse genders, sexualities, neurotypes, disabilities, racial and cultural backgrounds, and relationship preferences.

My aim is to create a safe, understanding space where these experiences can be explored and felt without judgment. My approach is collaborative and relational – I shape the way I work around your individual needs at a pace that feels right for you. My style is warm, steady and down-to-earth, creating a space where you can talk openly, feel understood and gently make sense of whatever you’re facing.

Therapy with me is a space to make sense of your experiences, to reconnect with yourself and others and to move towards a life that feels more authentic, grounded and alive.

Experience

I have established clinical experience working with intergenerational and complex trauma, anxiety and depression and abuse, self-harm, disordered eating, low self-esteem and key life transitions. My work focuses on helping clients develop understanding, rebuild emotional safety and restore a sense of coherence and connection. I have supported clients across a wide range of ages, identities, and life stages, including diverse genders, sexualities, neurotypes, disabilities, cultural backgrounds and relationship preferences.

Questions of identity, difference and belonging have long been central to my work. I bring sustained clinical experience supporting people whose emotional difficulties are shaped by gender, sexuality, race and experiences of marginalisation, particularly where these are entwined with anxiety, complex and transgenerational trauma or histories of abuse.

My Background

Alongside psychotherapy, I’m also an artist and this shapes how I listen and work therapeutically. My commissions are centred on capturing distinct emotional stories, lived experiences and uniqueness. This has strengthened my ability to honour individuality and notice what sits beneath someone’s words. In therapy, this translates into a way of working that is co-creative, responsive and tailored to you – helping you explore and express feelings or experiences that may be hidden, muted or difficult to name, in a way that feels safe for you.

Before training as a therapist, I spent 20 years working in psychology within the corporate sector. During this time, I became deeply interested in gendered mental health and the stigma surrounding vulnerability, emotional expression and help-seeking, particularly within high-pressure and performance-driven environments. This work sharpened my understanding of how cultural expectations around gendered roles, success and resilience inform emotional life—insights that continue to inform my therapeutic practice today.
