Consultant Psychotherapist DPsy Psy, MPhil, MA, BA (Hons), Dip PT
Hello, I am a psychotherapist. I specialise in working with children, adolescents, young adults, and families who are experiencing difficulties, anxiety, or distress. My expertise also includes working with those who have been impacted by traumatic events or relational and developmental trauma experiences.
My core training is in clinical child & adolescent psychotherapy with extensive additional trainings. I have significant experience working in this field within the NHS, Child & Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS), NSPCC, Family Services and the voluntary sector.
As a psychoanalytic psychotherapist, I seek to provide a welcoming, safe, contained, and consistent space. It is important that thoughts, feelings, and experiences can be expressed, explored, and processed to support positive change, wellbeing, and recovery.
Psychotherapy can help people to feel accepted, valued and understood, and can lead to psychological change at a deep level, to help to encourage positive relationships and connections with others. The psychoanalytic way of working also pays attention to unconscious thoughts and feelings, attempting to bring insight and awareness to what might previously have been hidden. The focus may be on past and/ or current experiences.
I offer a range of psychological and creative evidence-based therapies with an understanding that everyone is different and may require a blend of approaches and pace to help them to feel comfortable depending on their needs, age and presenting issues. The effectiveness of the therapy will be enhanced by the development of a collaborative therapeutic relationship enabled through empathy, compassion, and trust.
We will work together to develop a shared understanding of difficulties and identify achievable goals to help you, and or your child and family to move forward.
Within this we will consider the most effective way of working to support you or your child. This may include a range of treatment models from my trainings including psychotherapy, EMDR, Play Therapy, Trauma focused CBT, Dyadic developmental psychotherapy, counselling, infant-parent mental health and parent and family systemic work.
I work with a wide range of issues and complexity this includes but is not exclusive to working with: Post-traumatic distress disorder, complex trauma and abuse, anxiety, low mood & depression, bereavement & loss, attachment & separation, gender identity, impact of physical health issues, neurodiversity, disordered eating, domestic violence, adoption, fostering, children in care and refugees. I am committed to supporting equality, diversity, inclusion and belonging throughout all of my work.
Please contact me if you feel I might be the right fit for you and can offer the values and therapeutic experience and help you are seeking.
My professional experience within national and local organisations, voluntary services and in independent practice has enabled me to provide extensive clinical care including assessments, consultation and treatment, in a wide range of settings.
In addition to my therapeutic clinical practice, I work with professional networks to support their understanding of children and adults’ presentations and needs. I have represented and advocated for young people through legal and court processes. I have provided specialist trauma training and contributed towards research and the development and delivery of treatment care pathways.
I provide supervision to clinical staff, qualified psychotherapists, trainees and leaders within mental health services, and work within professional leadership to support the development of clinical practitioners and safe and effective practice.
All mandatory training including safeguarding is regularly updated and completed as required.
