Karen Jones

MBACP, Dip.Couns Counsellor

I am a warm, friendly and caring person committed to supporting people through difficult times. My aim is to help clients gain insight into their experiences and emotions, so they are able to develop awareness, understanding and a path forward.

My therapeutic approach is grounded in Person-Centred Therapy, but my practice also integrates elements from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Transactional Analysis (TA), Psychodynamic Theory, Attachment Theory, and creative therapies. This means that I can combine elements from multiple psychological theories to create a service shaped around each person’s unique life experience, and that best supports each person.

I’m interested in the mind-body connection, which draws me to use mindfulness techniques in my counselling practice, as well as somatic work.

Learning more about who you are isn’t always easy, but it opens the door to real insight and acceptance. Identifying the patterns and reasons behind your thoughts, emotions and behaviours can help you understand yourself and the way you think and feel, and develop coping strategies that genuinely work for you.

I offer 50-minute sessions on a weekly or fortnightly basis. If you’re ready to take that first step, I’d be glad to hear from you.

Experience

Over my 25 years in the publishing industry, I’ve been fortunate to gather many valuable experiences, working alongside all kinds of people, finding my way through challenges, and learning just how much communication truly matters. These lessons have quietly shaped me, and I feel they’ve given me a meaningful foundation for my role in counselling, the journey for which began in 2019 with an introductory course in understanding mental health. I hope to carry the same care and understanding into my work now, offering a space that feels collaborative, balanced, and supportive for the people I work with.

My counselling placements at a local college and a local counselling service have been invaluable to my professional and personal growth. My work with students at a local comprehensive school has allowed me to provide essential support to young people during a formative and often challenging stage of their lives, helping safeguard their wellbeing and emotional development.
