I offer professional counselling for individuals and couples who may be finding life or their relationships difficult.

Why would you see me?

You may feel confused or overwhelmed, caught in familiar patterns, or unsure how to move forward. Or you may simply need a space to hear yourself, and pause, breathe and reflect on what is happening in your life.

For individuals, you may be struggling with anxiety, self-doubt, or the pressures of work, relationships or family concerns. You might find it hard to trust your instincts, or feel stuck in patterns of overthinking or self-criticism. Together, we can explore what may be holding you back and help you develop a clearer understanding of yourself, your feelings and what matters to you.

For couples, difficulties can sometimes develop gradually. You may find yourselves having the same arguments, struggling to feel heard or understood, or feeling increasingly distant from one another. Perhaps conversations that matter become difficult, or you find yourselves reacting to each other in ways that leave you both frustrated or hurt. Couples counselling offers an opportunity to explore what is happening between you and begin to understand each other’s experiences and perspectives.

How I work

Whether I am working with an individual or a couple, I believe that having the space to speak openly and feel genuinely heard can be an important starting point for change. My approach is highly relational and responsive to you. I aim to offer you a place where you feel wholly supported and respected, and where difficult feelings and experiences can be explored at your own pace.

My background

I am a qualified counsellor with a Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling (CPCAB). I am a Registered Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and an Accredited Registrant of the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society (MNCPS Accred). I work in accordance with their ethical frameworks.

Before training as a counsellor, I had a quite varied background, starting life as an engineer, running an aviation leasing business, and latterly worked for many years in recruitment and HR, supporting people through change and challenges. This experience, alongside my own life and family experiences, has deepened my understanding of the pressures people face and how important it is to explore what is going on inside ourselves.

I continue to develop my knowledge and skills in working with couples, with a particular interest in helping partners understand the patterns they find themselves caught in and the ways they can reconnect.

I offer open-ended counselling, meaning there is no fixed number of sessions. We can review our work together and you can decide when it feels right to stop or take a break.

I offer new clients a free 20-minute video consultation, giving us an opportunity to meet, discuss what has brought you to counselling and see whether working together feels right for you.

Testimonials

“I never previously felt comfortable about opening up and talking about my feelings and emotions. Julia created a space where I felt super comfortable opening up and exploring how and why I feel a certain way. I have learnt a huge amount about myself over the last few months and I have a completely different outlook on life, thanks to working with Julia.”

– Luke

“You have helped me talk through so much that I thought I never could. I can’t thank you enough for giving me a safe space to tell my story.”

– Emily

“Even though I did most of the talking, it felt like I was talking to a mirror. You seemed to reflect back everything I was thinking, which really helped me feel validated and sort out my thoughts. I feel so much stronger now.”

– Michelle

“I felt all the conversations we had were completely tailored to me and what I was trying to say. It made me feel as though you were really listening to me.”
