Dr Michael Munday
Chartered Clinical Psychologist
I am a clinical psychologist offering therapy to adults and young people (aged 13 and above). I have over 17 years’ experience as a therapist working in the NHS and in private practice.
My focus is on trying to help you grow and thrive towards what you value in life, what is meaningful to you, and to become more yourself. I pay attention to you as a whole person through showing genuine curiosity about you, your life and relationships.
I have experience of being alongside people in helping them navigate a variety of mental health difficulties, including depression, anxiety, anger, low self-worth, shame, relationship problems, gender dysphoria, trauma, self-harm, substance misuse, eating difficulties, personality difficulties, psychosis, and bipolar affective disorder.
I am now full time in my private practice and I previously worked for the NHS for 18 years. My last role was lead clinical psychologist for the Early Intervention in Psychosis Service in West Surrey and North East Hants. This was a leadership role in which I provided psychological therapy to clients and also supervised other psychologists and therapists in helping them reflect on and develop their practices. Prior to that, I worked in NHS community mental health teams in Westminster and Hounslow, psychology outpatient services, a specialist eating disorder service, and community learning disability services.
As a clinical psychologist, I am trained in a number of different approaches to therapy. I am passionate about therapy and take an integrative approach, drawing on a variety of therapeutic models in seeking to understand you as a person and how to collaborate with you.
We all struggle at times, but I believe that we all have a compassionate self capable of healing our hurts and leading us to health. Through building a safe therapeutic relationship together we can bring that self to the fore and work through whatever the difficulties are that bring you to therapy. I aim to be humane and compassionate and I hope that my clients experience me as someone they can relate to and confide in.
