MBACP Counsellor and Psychotherapist
Hi, I’m Alex, an experienced integrative counsellor working with adults 18+.
I understand that life can be challenging at times and although we might have coping mechanisms to see us through, sometimes they aren’t enough and it can feel overwhelming to cope alone. Seeking support feels daunting, but it also shows courage when everything else may feel hopeless.
Is a current situation is leaving you disengaged with yourself and others, or are past events are affecting your present relationships? Perhaps you feel flat or stuck and can’t ascertain why? Our experiences can leave us feeling anxious, or disempowered, preventing us moving forward. I am a non-judgemental and compassionate therapist, offering a space to freely explore who you are and make sense of your feelings.
A strong, nurturing relationship between therapist and client is a powerful catalyst for healing, promoting self-awareness and lasting change, and our relationship will be built on warmth, trust, and respect. I will not give advice, but rather help you find your own answers and decisions through an objective lens. Together, we can explore what you would like to be different and how I can support you in achieving this.
In exploring your unique experience, we work collaboratively, led by you. As an integrative therapist, I am able to tailor my approach to your individual needs by utilising different elements from several therapeutic models, including;
• Psychodynamic – Helping you understand how your current feelings and unconscious patterns are shaped by past experiences.
• Person-centred – Seeking to understand your experiences from your conscious perspective, through a genuine, empathic, and accepting curiosity, counselling is led by you so to achieve greater self-awareness.
• Solution Focused – Setting goals and exploring the means to achieve them, the focus is on what you can do, rather than what you can’t, to promote positive change.
• Transactional Analysis – Exploring the human personality and its parent, child, adult, ego states, to help you understand how you interact with others.
I offer both short and open ended long-term counselling.
I am a registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and I am bound by its ethical framework and complaints procedure. I also undertake continued professional development to further develop my knowledge.
Outside my private practice, I have extensive experience counselling students in university wellbeing settings.
I volunteered for two years as a bereavement counsellor for a local hospice, providing psychological support to carers and families through treatment, terminal illness and bereavement.
