Why choose me?

Deciding to come to counselling is a big step. I provide a confidential, calm and nurturing space in which we can build a therapeutic relationship based on trust. This facilitates open and honest conversations which help us to explore together the challenges you are facing.

I trained as an integrative therapist which means I use a variety of modalities and theories to underpin our work together. I work in a humanistic way which allows us to:

  • Clarify your values and desires
  • Understand your emotions without judgment
  • Build self-awareness and self-acceptance

I also work psychodynamically because I believe that past events in your life, both conscious and unconscious, have led to the thoughts, feelings and behaviours you experience today.

The quality of the therapeutic relationship is the key to success in counselling. For this reason I provide a free telephone conversation to help us work out if we are right for each other.

Whatever your life stage, I am able to help you navigate the difficulties you are facing such as relationship issues, bereavement, exploring your gender identity and/or sexuality, challenges at work, processing trauma, living with anxiety and/or depression.

I have a specialism (Level 5 Diploma) in counselling children and young people and have extensive experience of working with 13-20 year olds as they navigate the challenges of adolescence. I believe that support from a counsellor at this tricky life stage when their identity is forming and their body is changing can be vital in helping young people to individuate (separate from parents), especially against the backdrop of 21st century living, including managing pressure from school, parents, peers and their online world. My younger clients are often struggling with a lack of self worth which may be leading to self harm and suicidal ideation. I aim to help them build a stronger sense of who they are and foster a feeling of being “good enough” inside – building resilience and helping them to weather future storms more confidently.

Many of my clients are neurodivergent and I recently completed a Level 2 course in Understanding Autism to help me understand their challenges more fully.

Experience

I have worked for over two years as a volunteer at a local charity offering free counselling to young people aged 11-25 and also at a local sixth form college. I have also worked for Mind mental health charity as a counsellor working with adults.
