Sarah Child

MBACP Counsellor and Psychotherapist

About Me

As an experienced therapist, I can offer you a safe and confidential space for you to talk through any issues or challenges that you may be experiencing.

Counselling can help you identify, understand and explore your problem/s and help you find ways to cope. It can be beneficial to share your thoughts and feelings to enable you to understand yourself better, in how you think, feel, react and respond. This is likely to positively change how you feel about yourself alongside improving your relationships with others. I will not give advice or offer the answers to your problems but will remain alongside you and help you find your own way forward. I understand that seeking counselling can be a daunting prospect and do my utmost to create an environment where my client feels comfortable and at ease.

I offer individual counselling to adults, young people and trainee counsellors. I also work with couples in therapy and aim to provide a safe, private space to explore any issues or concerns within the relationship. It is an opportunity to gain new perspectives of each other and learn new ways of being together. This is enabled in improving communication and exploring difference, conflict styles and intimacy alongside identifying both partners wants and needs.

I offer a free 20-minute initial consultation online or by telephone. This is an opportunity for us to meet, discuss your needs and check that I am best placed to support you.

Training, qualifications & experience

  • Advanced Certificate in Couples Therapy (COSRT Approved)
  • PG Diploma in Counselling Supervision
  • BA Hons in Counselling
  • Foundation Degree in Humanistic Counselling

My experience has been developed from working with many different clients facing different challenges over the last six years in my private practice at The Eaves.

I also spent many years working with Bereaved/Pre- Bereaved clients and their families as a staff counsellor at Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice in Farnham. During this time, I worked with individuals and groups. My work included supporting clients through their adjustment to illness, losses and grief alongside supporting a wide range of other issues and challenges. I was responsible for undertaking counselling assessments to establish patients and their families emotional needs and allocating clients to the most suitable staff or volunteer counsellor. I also provided 1-1 and group supervision to both qualified and trainee volunteer counsellors.

I enjoy working with young people and gained valuable experience of working with young people (12-24 years) from my work for the Youth Counselling Service in Guildford (NHS/Virgin Care).
