Sarah Child

MBACP Counsellor and Psychotherapist

About Me

Life can be difficult for all of us, at different times, for different reasons. Sometimes we can cope but at other times things can feel overwhelming.

As a therapist, I can offer you a safe and confidential space for you to talk through any issues or challenges that you may be experiencing. Counselling can help you find a better way of coping with issues and also help you identify and explore the root of your problem/s. It can be helpful to share your fears, thoughts and feelings. This can enable you to understand yourself better, in how you think, feel, react and respond. This is likely to positively change how you feel about yourself alongside improving your relationships with others. I will not give advice or offer the answers to your problems but will remain alongside you and help you find your own way forward.

Training, qualifications & experience

  • BA Hons in Counselling
  • Foundation Degree in Humanistic Counselling

My aim is to provide you with a relationship built upon trust, openness and honesty, where you can feel accepted without judgement, as equals and can offer an empathic understanding and a genuine response.

Working from a Humanistic approach, we will focus upon what is happening for you in the present. However, past relationships and experiences clearly affect our present so these are explored as they arise. I take the lead from my client and work at their pace, gently challenging when appropriate to facilitate different perspectives and to help increase self awareness.

I understand that seeking counselling can be a daunting prospect and do my upmost to create an environment where my client feels comfortable and at ease. Our first session is an opportunity for us to meet, discuss your needs and consider if and how we can work together.

My experience has developed from working with Bereaved/Pre- Bereaved patients and families at Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice Care in Farnham to working for the Youth Counselling Service in Guildford (NHS/Virgin Care). This is alongside my part time private practice at The Eaves in Godalming.

I have gained experience working with a range of issues that include depression, anxiety, loss and bereavement, self-harm, stress, relationship issues, abuse, low self-esteem and self confidence.
