Anne Lawrance-Anderson

MBACP (Accred.) Counsellor

I work with adults (18+) seeking support with a variety of issues including bereavement and loss; relationship difficulties; challenging life events; anxiety, depression, low self-esteem; health issues; infertility and miscarriage; menopause and midlife, and more.

What you can expect: A warm, safe and confidential space, with plenty of encouragement and support, where you can ‘find your voice’ and work towards getting your life back on track.

My approach: My approach takes into account your past experiences and how these may impact on the present, and also works with an understanding that difficult feelings can be repressed by our conscious minds when they are too painful for us to process. These buried or unconscious feelings, however, can still drive our behaviour, leading to a sense we are not really in control of our lives or are caught-up in repeated patterns of unwanted behaviour. Drawing on this approach enables clients to develop greater self-awareness, a crucial part of successful therapy. As well as exploring feelings and patterns of behaviour, a focus on self-care, self-compassion and coping strategies forms an important part of my approach.

Initial consultations (reduced rate): An initial consultation is an opportunity for you to come along and see how you feel about working together. We will discuss the outcome you are hoping for and how best we can work towards this. I offer both time-limited and longer term therapy and we can discuss what feels right for you in our initial session.

Appointments are currently available in-person at The Eaves in Guildford (daytime availability only).

Experience

I currently work with individuals (18+) in private practice and as a volunteer with Cruse Bereavement Care. I have experience of counselling within charitable organisations and working on telephone helplines, including ChildLine. I have also worked as a student skills mentor and Professional and Personal Development Group facilitator for a Sussex-based counselling and training agency.

Before training as a counsellor, I worked for over 20 years as a commissioning editor for both UK and US book publishers, specialising in popular psychology, health, self-help, mindfulness and parenting titles. This opportunity to work with many leading experts in these areas has fed into my experience and work as a counsellor.
