Decima Hendrick
MBACP, FdSc Counsellor & Psychotherapist
We all struggle from time to time. Whether it’s something that’s currently challenging or something that’s quietly weighed on us for years.
It doesn’t have to stay that way though.
It may not feel like it right now, but when we are given the space to explore our thoughts and feelings at a pace that works for us, we all have the ability to change. Not in a “fix yourself overnight” way, but in small, meaningful shifts that add up.
And most importantly – you don’t have to do it alone.
I am a qualified and experienced integrative therapist. That means I adapt my approach to fit you – weaving together different theories and techniques because everyone’s experiences and challenges are unique.
As well as working with what’s going on for you now, where it’s helpful I also take a psychodynamic approach, exploring your past to help you recognise how those experiences might be influencing what’s happening for you now.
Our sessions will give you space to truly be heard and understood with compassion and empathy. When you feel heard and understood, a relationship of warmth and trust naturally develops. Confronting challenging experiences can be difficult, but the hope is that the relationship we build will help you feel safe enough to explore the things that are really weighing you down, holding you back, maybe making you feel anxious, angry, or depressed.
Through our work together you’ll have the opportunity to talk about these things and start to understand yourself better, becoming more aware of how and why you feel and behave the way you do. That way, you will be more able to make choices that actually feel right for you.
I know that finding the right therapist can be tricky; reading a website and seeing a photograph can only give you so much. The best way to decide if a therapist is right for you is to meet them. That’s why I offer a free 30-minute video call – no pressure, no obligation. Just a chance to see if this feels right. You can ask questions, get a feel for how I work, and decide if you want to go further.
I work with adults of all ages (18+) and offer short or long-term therapy. We can talk about which is best for you when we meet. I have experience in a number of areas including anxiety, depression, low mood, self-esteem, confidence, relationship difficulties, work-related challenges, menopause, and loss.
Experience
It was through having counselling myself that I knew I wanted to become a therapist. It was the first time I had felt really listened to, supported and empowered; I knew I wanted to help others feel the same way and it’s a privilege to be able to do that.
As well as working in private practice in both Godalming and Reigate, I have experience as a volunteer counsellor for the Horsham and Crawley Counselling Group, The Awareness Centre in Clapham, and Surrey & Borders Partnership NHS Trust.
Whilst clients have come to me for many varied reasons, I have particular experience of working with anxiety, depression and low mood, adverse childhood experiences, relationship and family difficulties, work-related challenges, and life transitions (including menopause).
