MBACP PGDip BA(Hons) wpf Psychotherapist

My work is based on psychodynamic principles but my former work and study was person centred which remains at the heart of what all therapy is about. Focussing within a psychodynamic perspective essentially means exploring together in detail the patterns and themes that have occurred and reoccurred throughout life.

The idea is the more we reflect on and make meaning of these patterns or repetitions, which we all encounter, the easier it becomes to break free of unwanted cycles. This doesn’t mean becoming free of worries but building up resilience in oneself, and learning how to mediate all of our experiences, thoughts and feelings in a way which makes us feel better and more positive about ourselves and the paths and events we encounter.

Many clients feel they are able to make progress in their lives, unlock blocks and achieve long term goals and lasting change.

Experience

I have worked in mental health since the late 1990s when I began as a Keyworker for the charity Mind and continued with Hestia Housing and Support where I went into managing residential rehabilitation homes. I really enjoyed talking with clients and it was obvious that a career in counselling would be a good path.

I started studying counselling skills and then began my psychotherapy training in 2006. I then worked part time in a women’s refuge until I qualified and started my private practice in 2010.

I work mainly with individuals on an open ended basis and I also see couples which is usually more focussed but can also be medium / long term.
