Miriam Schafer
MBACP, BA (Hons) Counsellor & Psychotherapist (she/her)
Hi, I’m Miriam, a BACP registered counsellor and psychotherapist supporting adults with a wide range of difficulties, including anxiety, depression and relationship challenges. I currently have availability for new clients and offer both short- and long-term therapy, in person and online. My intention is to provide a calm, steady space where you can pause, reflect, feel more grounded, and begin to find clarity and light.
When you are feeling overwhelmed, struggling with feelings of hopelessness, loneliness, grief, anger, shame, anxiety or depression, it can be difficult to know where to turn. I offer a warm, attuned presence alongside you, and as an integrative therapist, I draw from a range of effective therapeutic approaches as we explore the ways you relate to yourself and others. Together, we can begin to recognise what you need, while I support you in reconnecting with your strengths and values, so that you can navigate difficult times with greater choice, self-compassion and understanding.
I offer an inclusive practice and welcome clients from all backgrounds. I work with people exploring their relationship with neurodiversity and support members of the LGBTQIA+ community, offering a queer-friendly and trans-inclusive space where you can arrive exactly as you are.
Experience
My clinical experience includes working within local mental health charities, where I support adults experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, grief and loss, low self-esteem, suicidal thoughts, relationship challenges, chronic health conditions, and caring responsibilities. I have also worked with children and young people and have additional training in therapeutic play.
Before training as a counsellor, I worked in a variety of business environments, giving me insight into the pressures of working life, including workplace stress, overwhelm, and burnout.
I remain committed to ongoing professional training and development, ensuring the support I offer is effective, ethical, and responsive to your individual needs. Regular clinical supervision forms an important part of my practice, helping me reflect on and maintain the quality of my work.
Counselling has also been an important part of my own life, both before and throughout my professional development. Through my own experience of therapy, I have known the value of having a dedicated space where I could feel heard, understood, and supported in making sense of my experiences. This has deepened my self-understanding and capacity for change, and informs the warmth, honesty, and compassion I bring to my work, alongside a deep respect for the courage it takes to reach out for support.
