Maria Burger

MBACP Counsellor and Psychotherapist

I am an integrative counsellor offering a calm, respectful and non-judgemental space to explore whatever has brought you to counselling.

My values are at the centre of my practice. I value respect, honesty, compassion, equality, individuality, and authenticity, and I believe that a strong therapeutic relationship is built on trust, openness, and genuine understanding.

I see each person as an individual, with their own experiences, relationships, beliefs and ways of coping. Rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach, I draw on Person-Centred, Transactional Analysis, and psychodynamic approaches, adapting my way of working to suit your needs and what feels appropriate to you.

I am particularly interested in how our past experiences and relationships can influence how we see ourselves, relate to others, and respond to situations in the present. Exploring these patterns can sometimes help us understand ourselves differently and consider new ways of responding.

I believe you are the expert in your own life. My role is not to provide answers or tell you what you should do, but to work collaboratively with you, offer a different perspective, and help you explore what matters to you.

I aim to work with warmth and authenticity, while maintaining clear professional boundaries. I will respect your pace, your choices and your individual circumstances.

Whether you are experiencing anxiety, relationship difficulties, low self-esteem, life changes or feeling overwhelmed, counselling can provide an opportunity to step back, reflect and develop a clearer understanding of yourself and what you need.

Experience

My placement was at ARC counselling in Wokingham. I have also worked at the NHS as a health and well being support for pregnant women.
