MBACP, BSc(hons) Applied Psychology

Counselling may be a new experience for you and could feel daunting. I can help by providing a calm, nurturing and confidential space in which I will accompany and support you on your counselling path.

Deciding to come for counselling can be the first step in making a significant change in your life. I believe that we all have the ability, to grow and evolve, often in response to challenges we encounter in our lives.

I work with people over the age of 18. I specialise in the key stages of women’s lives and the transitions they often involve, such as leaving home, building & maintaining a career, forming relationships, infertility, maternity & loss, motherhood, managing family life, divorce, menopause, redundancy & retirement, ageing and caring for others. I also have extensive experience in workplace coaching and development.

I have an integrative approach, which means I use a variety of models and theories to underpin our work together, these include Humanistic, Psychodynamic, Existentialist and Transpersonal. The quality of the relationship between client and counsellor has been shown to be key in predicting the success of counselling, consequently, I provide a free 30 minute telephone consultation during which you can assess whether would like to work with me.

Experience

I have worked with clients on a wide range of issues including sexual assault, illness & chronic pain, consequences of addiction, traumatic childhood, anxiety, abusive relationships, guilt and shame, loss and bereavement, sexual abuse.

I have experience of working in low-cost, long-term counselling in a Women’s centre and in shorter term counselling for students and staff at a university. I also work as a counsellor in a women’s prison.

Before training to be a counsellor, I worked for over 30 years in Human Resources in a large organisation. Here I had experience of supporting & coaching employees and managers through a range of workplace issues including harassment and bullying, disciplinary and grievance, redundancy and retirement. The experience of working with people of all ages and from many cultures gave me insight to the challenges of human life and strengthened my belief in the inner resilience and the potential for growth and change in us all.

She fostered a trusting environment where I felt genuinely understood and her compassionate approach made a lasting positive impact on my mental well-being. Sue demonstrated remarkable empathy and expertise in our sessions: not only did she listen deeply, she offered me practical tools to improve my emotional resilience. Her thoughtful advice and unwavering support were instrumental in my personal growth and I highly recommend her services.”

LC “Sue is most certainly a ‘Jewel’ in the mental health space. It’s hard to put into words just how much of a positive impact my six sessions with her had.
I could not be more thankful for the support and counsel that she has brought me, even being, what I would consider, a pretty normal adult just simply trying to navigate a challenging world.

The sessions were eye-opening, and practical so I took away some valuable insights and lessons. Sue also has a such a lovely, kind yet knowledgeable nature, and I felt comfortable opening up right away”.
