BA (Hons) Counselling
Counselling at its core is about a professional collaborative, boundaried relationship. This will help you feel safe and respected and able to explore the difficulties you would like to work on, at your pace. Sometimes we are not sure why we are struggling, and it is my job to help you make sense of what has happened to you and your thoughts, feelings, and coping strategies. I will meet you at your point of need and together, we will try and unravel your experience, with compassion and sensitivity.
Our emotions are really important because they let us know how we are and whether we need to take some action. Some emotions can feel difficult – sadness, anxiety, anger. It is entirely reasonable to feel these and other emotions when our lives have not been safe, we have experienced loss, relationship breakdowns, loss of love and care, not getting our physical and emotional needs met and much more. We need a quiet space where we can be really heard and have an opportunity to process our experience.
My theoretical model is Integrative. I draw on several psychological models to help me understand the roots of your difficulties and make sense of how this may be affecting the distress that you are experiencing and coping strategies.
I have a particular interest in working with adults who have been abused in childhood and the impact of this. I believe there is a real hope for recovery and post traumatic growth. It’s not easy but it is possible with support. I also have extensive experience working with stress, anxiety, anger, faith, low self-esteem, burnout, loss, bereavement, life transitions, sudden changes in life experience. This list is not exhaustive.
My hope is that clients are with the right professional. Do contact me for a brief, free phone call so that I can see how best to help you. If I cannot help, I will be transparent about this and suggest one of my colleagues who might be a better fit.
I am at The Eaves working face-to-face on Tuesdays (9 a.m. until 5 p.m.) and on Fridays (1 p.m. until 5 p.m.)
I was trained at Waverley Abbey College (validated by Roehampton University)
