Children and adolescents can find it so hard to understand their emotions, why certain situations trigger them, why they suddenly feel overwhelmed or scared. They often struggle to feel truly listened to and understood. Trained in the use of Arts in Therapy, I use painting, drawing, imagery, therapeutic story-telling and sand play to enable a child, teenager or young adult to tell and more importantly understand their story. Through this understanding comes the ability to grow and change.
Building a safe, nurturing, therapeutic space for young people to feel supported and truly listened to, is at the heart of what I do and I firmly believe that this is a prerequisite to facilitate growth and change. I am committed to building a warm, and empathetic relationship that will allow a young person to feel safe and supported to embark on a journey to realise their full potential.
Experience
In addition to my private practice, I work as a school counsellor for a large primary school where I support children aged 5-10 years old. I also work for the NHS as a Youth Counsellor for the Youth Counselling Service within CAMHs where I see young people (12-21 years old) with a range of mental health difficulties.
Previously, I worked as a Deputy SENCo in a large secondary school where I specialised in providing mental health/pastoral support. In these settings, I have also worked with children who are neurodivergent.
