MBACP Accredited Counsellor / EMDR Therapist
I am an EMDR Practitioner working in a humanistic way to help you achieve a fulfilling life. I offer therapy in a confidential setting.
If you feel life is not quite what it should be or how you want it to be, we could explore together what is affecting your life today and look at how you might be able to change some things to improve your well-being.
Sometimes it is useful to look at how past experiences might be affecting your life at present, although it is not always necessary to look into the past. I believe self-awareness is key to understanding oneself and I work with this in mind. I approach my work with curiosity and believe that an honest, open and trusting relationship will enable the development of self-awareness through our work together, thus enabling you to achieve your therapy goals.
EMDR therapy (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) focuses on how a person’s earlier traumatic experiences can influence their day-to-day life regarding how they feel both physically and mentally. Physical ailments can also be linked to adverse experiences. Trauma can be any event that has a lasting negative effect upon someone. EMDR therapy helps clients unlock and process traumatic memories by using the Adaptive Information Processing model (AIP) where we would be looking at what happened to you in the past. This can help clients heal from emotional/physical trauma and disturbing experiences in life. There is a lot of EMDR information online including YouTube demonstrations.
If you are coming to me for EMDR therapy, the first few sessions will focus on resource building, history taking and screening for suitability for EMDR.
EMDR is not used for all clients with talk therapy being the alternative option. I will be guided by you. I work one-to-one with adults of all ages.
I also have experience of working with young adults having worked in the Counselling Department of a London University for six years.
“I first met Anne when I was in a very, very dark place… I was a front-line police officer and had been diagnosed with CPTSD. I was determined when I first arrived at her front door that I was going to ‘play the game’ and soon be back to front line where I belonged. However, I very quickly realised I was not going to ‘play the game’ and then it all came out. The work she focused on was EMDR reprocessing and she gave me a safe place to do that. After 24 sessions I am in a great place, somewhere I never thought possible. I literally owe her my life and will be forever grateful”. CT
“Thank you for your kindness and compassion during these counselling sessions. Your warmth and calming spirit made it easier for me to open up and release what I kept deep inside” A
