Julia Goodall
MBACP Psychotherapist
I am a registered psychotherapist working in Godalming and Haslemere, Surrey.
I work with individuals and couples, offering a safe, inclusive, non-judgemental space to explore and work through challenging life events or experiences.
I believe that everyone should have at least one experience of therapy in their lives and that having this space can deepen self-awareness and allow us to inhabit our lives and relationships in more connected and meaningful ways.
I work with individuals and couples going through:
- Life transitions (having children, death, divorce, moving)
- Feeling they have grown apart after having children
- Struggling to connect
- Affairs
- Wanting better communication skills
- Grief and Loss
- Depression
- Anxiety
- Loneliness
- Low Self-Esteem
- Parenting Support
- Personality Disorders
- PTSD and Trauma
- Self-Harm
- Sexual abuse and rape
- Shame and Guilt
- Stress management
I have a special interest in relationships and how the quality of our relationships affect all aspects of our lives.
Experience
I trained and began my career in South Africa, where I worked in the public health system, and then later went on to open my own private practice. While in the public health system, I focused my work predominantly around perinatal mental health, running a psychology clinic at a local community health centre, as well as running training workshops and providing support groups for medical staff. In this setting, I worked with people experiencing extremely high levels of trauma, and I was equipped to help clients work through traumatic events or experiences.
In my private practice, I also worked with new and expecting parents around various perinatal mental health difficulties, offered couples sessions, and saw a range of people from different backgrounds with varying mental health and relationship difficulties.
I was an active member of the Cape Town Psychoanalytic Self Psychology Group and a registered Babies in Mind practitioner.
I’m trained to see a range of clients with varying degrees of difficulties. I have a special interest in perinatal mental health (I include both partners in my treatments if clients are comfortable with this), infertility, depression, anxiety and personality disorders. I also see people who are functioning in their daily lives, but are feeling ‘stuck’ in some way, or those that are ready to process a previous life experience or trauma.
I offer family and couples sessions – please discuss these with me so we can decide on the best format for these sessions.
I also work with people who are grieving, struggling with issues around identity, and those who have experienced trauma.
