Alice Quinn
PgDip, MBABCP
My career in psychology commenced in 2010 when I started my BSc (Hons) Psychology degree. I began my post graduate diploma as a registered mental health nurse (RMN) in 2013, which allowed me to gain a breadth of experience, including A and E, inpatient and community services for both adults and in CAMHS. After working for some time as a Nurse In Charge, I moved to become a care co-ordinator within the CAMHS community NHS services. In 2018 I decided to complete my Post Graduate diploma in CBT. Alongside my practice I work for an NHS Talking Therapies service, delivering both Supervision to trainee and experienced therapists, and clinical interventions to NHS patients. Since then I have also completed supervisor’s training and Narrative Exposure Therapy training with Woodfield Trauma Service (Central and North West London NHS). Narrative Exposure Therapy is a trauma treatment for more complex trauma and I have mainly delivered this with asylum seekers and refugee’s. I provide flexible cognitive behavioural therapy tailored to your individual experiences. I offer a comprehensive level of care derived from extensive background across various NHS settings. I am based in Surrey, and my practice delivers compassionate and expert support for a wide array of mental health challenges. Within my current NHS role I mainly work with the following;
OCD
Generalised Anxiety
Low self-esteem
Panic Disorder
Health Anxiety
Perfectionism
Social Anxiety
PTSD (Trauma focussed CBT and/or Narrative Exposure therapy)
Depression
Specific Phobias
I aim to foster open, genuine, and collaborative therapy that respects your expertise in your own life. Life can be challenging and at different stages, we are all going to experience distress. I truly believe that Therapy should feel like a natural process. Therapy does not need to be Jargon, but a good therapist needs to tailor different interventions for the individual, in a way that is easy to both process and practice, so that eventually, the individual is being their own therapist. Just a few examples of interventions include;Cognitive Restructuring
Exposure Response Prevention (gradual exposure to fearful situations without engaging in unhelpful behaviours that unintentionally maintain the fear response)
Modifying unhelpful thinking styles
Imagery rescripting – a psychotherapy technique used to modify distressing memories and reframe their emotional experiences or ‘felt sense’ triggered by said experience.
Updating unhelpful beliefs about yourself or others
Modifying rules and assumptions;for example ‘If I’m not pleasing others, then I am a failure’ , ‘If I say no then I am a bad person’, ‘I must be prepared for the worst’
