Marianne Lucas
MBACP Counsellor Psychotherapist
Welcome. I’m Marianne, a qualified integrative therapist offering individual counselling to adults. Whether you’re feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or alone, I’m here to offer you a space where, together, we can explore the issues that are troubling you.
How Therapy Can Help
Life can be challenging, and sometimes we all need a little extra support. Having a confidential space to explore your feelings can lead to developing greater self-awareness, greater resilience, and self-confidence in navigating life’s challenges.
Therapeutic Services
I offer individual counselling to adults (18+), offering both short-term therapy (8-16 sessions) and long-term therapy.
My Approach
At the heart of my approach is empathy and compassion. I believe the client-therapist relationship plays a vital role in the therapeutic process, so my goal is to develop a relationship with you in which you feel heard, feel seen, and feel safe.
As an integrative therapist, my approach draws from multiple therapeutic approaches, including psychodynamic, person-centred, and cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT), allowing me to tailor my approach to suit your individual needs.
My aims are: to create a safe environment for us to explore what you are experiencing, where you are welcome as you are; to help you gain a better understanding of the ways your past may have impacted your present, empowering you to make more informed choices about your future; and, if appropriate, to provide practical tools that may help you reflect on and gently challenge any unhelpful patterns of thinking and behaviour. I believe therapy should be a collaborative process where we work together at a pace you feel comfortable with, and regularly check in to review how you are finding the therapy process and whether it is working for you.
What To Expect
I offer a (free) introductory call, where you can tell me a little bit about what brings you to counselling, and we can decide whether we feel we would be a good fit to work together. This call typically lasts 20 minutes. In this introductory call, we will cover the following:
– The main issues concerning you at this moment in time, and how they are currently impacting you
– Your expectations and goals for therapy
– A brief overview of your background, such as any important aspects of your life experiences, medical history or family history that feel relevant to share
– An explanation of how I work and what you can expect from our sessions
If you decide you would like to begin counselling, we can then schedule our first session. Sessions are 50 minutes and take place on a weekly basis.
If you have any questions or if you would like to book an introductory call, please feel free to contact me.
Experience
Following a career working in eating disorder treatment and addiction treatment at a rehabilitation hospital, I retrained as an integrative therapist. I have supported clients with a wide range of challenges including anxiety, anger, bereavement and loss, low self-esteem, depression, childhood trauma, and relationship issues.
