Claire Smith
MBACP Dip.Couns, Counsellor
I am a qualified Counsellor offering both long-term and short-term therapy, depending on your needs. My experience includes working in a psychodynamic way with clients over a long period, as well as supporting clients who are looking for shorter, more focused work. I have experience working with a wide range of issues, including self-harm, anxiety, depression, complex grief, relationship issues (including emotional abuse), and the impact of neurodiversity. Whatever brings you to counselling, I aim to provide a safe, supportive environment where you can explore you thoughts and feelings at your own pace. My approach is warm, down-to-earth and relational. I don’t believe I hold power in the room – instead, I see counselling as a collaborative process, where we work together to make sense of what youre experiencing.
Experience
I have experience working within several charities – one being a long term psychodynamic charity where I saw clients presenting with various levels of trauma. These clients were seen weekly on a long term basis. I currently work for a local charity, where I see clients on a more short term basis (6-12 sessions). Much of my client work has been working with shame, low self-esteem, neurodiversity, complex grief, relationship issues and self harm. I am about to begin my Level 5 Diploma Counselling Children and Young People with a placement in a secondary school.
