Dr Alice Coulson
DClinPsy, MSc, BA (Hons) Clinical Psychologist
I’m a Clinical Psychologist with a background across NHS, charity and research settings. I work with adults aged 18 and over who feel stuck, worn down, or quietly not okay – whether that’s anxiety, depression and OCD, grief, trauma, burnout, or something harder to name. I work particularly well with adults in their 20s and 30s navigating relationships, sense of self, life transitions and that nagging sense that something isn’t quite right.
Most people get to therapy after sitting with something difficult for a while. There’s no right time, and you don’t need to have it all worked out before we speak. Things can and do get better, even when they’ve felt stuck for a long time.
My approach draws on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT) and systemic thinking – looking at the relationships and wider patterns in your life, not just what’s going on inside. As a Clinical Psychologist I’m trained in several different types of therapy, not just one, which means the therapy shapes itself around you, not the other way round. Whichever approach we use, the aim of therapy isn’t to get rid of difficult feelings, it’s to carry them more lightly, so they no longer run you.
I don’t take what people carry into therapy lightly, often things held for a long time and sometimes things never quite said out loud. My aim is for you to feel genuinely understood, and safe enough to say what’s hardest to say, so together we can work out what’s going on and start to move through it.
Sessions are honest and unhurried, led by what’s right for you. Some people come for a shorter, focused piece of work, while others need more time. I’ll always be upfront about how things are going and about when it feels right to end.

I hold a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the University of Southampton, qualifying in 2024. I’ve worked in NHS, charity and research settings since 2018, and I continue to work as a Clinical Psychologist in an NHS specialist service alongside this practice.
