Lucy Furlong

Psych.D., B.Sc (Hons) Psychologist

I am an experienced Chartered Clinical Psychologist, BPS and HCPC Registered, with 20 years’ experience working in the NHS and private practice, offering assessment and therapy for adults of all ages. I work with a range of difficulties, including anxiety disorders (phobias, panic, health and social anxiety), OCD, stress, burnout, low self-esteem, single event PTSD and low mood. I am also passionate about supporting people through challenging life transitions.

I will work collaboratively with you to help explore how and why you struggle and enable you to understand and manage these challenges more effectively. As you learn to step back from difficulties and the distress caused you will be better able to discover new choices that can help change your life. I am warm and friendly and have been told by my clients that I am very easy to talk to and that they can tell me anything without worrying I will judge them.

Using an evidence based approach, I draw on a range of therapeutic models to tailor the therapy to the need of the individuals I work with. I mainly work from a Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) framework integrating elements of Compassion focused therapy (CFT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy ACT, Mindfulness and short-term schema therapy. I work collaboratively to help you understand and manage your challenges, enabling you to discover new choices and break free from unhelpful patterns.

I offer an initial assessment which will usually take place over 1-3 sessions and then create a therapeutic treatment plan. I offer both short (6-12 sessions) and longer-term therapeutic interventions based on clinical need. Any therapeutic intervention that we agree together, would be reviewed on a regular basis to ensure it is feeling supportive and effective

Experience

I completed my doctorate in Clinical Psychology in 2006. My training included working with adults and children with a wide range of difficulties including, anxiety disorders, depression, post traumatic stress disorder, psychosis, obsessive compulsive disorder and childhood difficulties.

I have over 20 years’ experience working in the NHS and private practice, offering assessment and therapy for individuals. I have worked with adults and children in a wide range of settings.
