Anti-Bullying Week 2021 – One Kind Word

By Olivia Walford, Administrator at The Eaves

From the 15th to the 19th of November, schools and workplaces across the UK will be celebrating Anti Bullying Week 2021. The Anti-Bullying Alliance (ABA) created this event to raise awareness of the effects of bullying and how to prevent it. This year, the focus is on going against the social norms to show kindness to others through One Kind Word.

How to use ‘One Kind Word’

As Britons, we can be famously apathetic but the ABA is using Anti-Bullying Week 2021 to remind us that we can make such a difference just with words. ‘One Kind Word’ to someone feeling sad can be enough to make them smile. Saying ‘One Kind Word’ to a loved one can remind them of how appreciative you are. Some ideas of how to use ‘One Kind Word’ this week are:

  • Saying thank you with a smile
  • Asking a stranger how their day is going
  • Giving a compliment to a classmate or co-worker
  • Greeting workers in shops
  • Messaging someone that you haven’t spoken to in a while
  • Reciting positive affirmations to yourself – you deserve kindness too!

This year’s campaign follows the #ChooseKindness message of Anti-Bullying Week 2019 and the ‘Choose Respect’ focus of Anti-Bullying Week 2020, the latter of which was celebrated by over 80% of UK schools.

Are you being bullied?

Unfortunately, bullying is not just limited to the classroom and can affect anyone at any age. Talking therapy can help you to process the feelings of shame, low self-esteem and depression which often accompany bullying. At The Eaves, our practitioners offer talking therapy for individuals of all ages, families, couples and young people. They have appointments available 12 hours a day, Monday to Saturday between 9am and 9pm. Please call 01483 917000 or email info@theeaves.org.uk to speak to a member of the referrals team.
