This CPD session will provide an introduction to neurodiversity, focusing specifically on Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and ADHD, and how these may be experienced and expressed in children. It will explore the wider impact of a child’s diagnosis on family relationships and consider how the realities of raising a neurodiverse child can differ from parents’ expectations.
The session will also examine the emotional challenges that parents and carers may face, including burnout and depression. In addition, it will discuss the experiences of parents who discover their own neurodivergence later in life, often following their child’s assessment or diagnosis. The training will conclude by considering how therapists can effectively support parents, carers and family members navigating these experiences.
