Adaptations to therapy for neurodivergent clients: considering differences in cognitive style, sensory responses, social communication difficulties and alexithymia.

Dr Ann Ozsivadjian worked at the Evelina London Children’s Hospital for 16 years, latterly as the lead clinical psychologist. During her time there she published a number of papers and also developed training programmes for CAMHS staff assessing and treating mental health difficulties in autistic young people. Autistic people are much more likely to experiences anxiety, depression and other mental health conditions than the non-autistic people. There is now a fairly solid evidence base for treating these conditions with cognitive behaviour therapy, with adaptations, and there is an emerging evidence base for other treatment approaches also, such as ACT and EMDR.

This CPD event will equip therapists with knowledge and skills to adapt their therapy approaches to the needs of clients with an established neurodivergent diagnosis, and also when to consider undiagnosed neurodivergence when working with a client.

What You Can Take Away from This CPD

Neurodivergent Clients: Adapt therapy for clients with diagnosed or undiagnosed neurodivergence.
Mental Health Risks: Autistic individuals are more likely to experience anxiety and depression.
Therapy Adaptations: Consider differences in cognitive style, sensory responses, social communication, and alexithymia.
