National Grief Awareness Week

National Grief Awareness Week is driven by The Good Grief Trust to raise awareness of all aspects of grief and loss on a national scale. To offer access to a choice of tailored bereavement support to all those grieving in the UK and to those working with the bereaved.*

Good Grief Trust

Good Grief Trust’s mission is to help the bereaved feel acknowledged and understood. They want to normalise grief and get people talking about this typically uncomfortable subject on a national platform. Their plan is to give everyone support from day one when experiencing grief. By using the hashtag’s #ShareYourStory and #NGAW20 across all your social media platforms can help raise awareness.**

What is Grief?

Grief is a natural response to loss. It’s the emotional suffering you feel when something or someone you love is taken away. Often, the pain of loss can feel overwhelming. You may experience all kinds of difficult and unexpected emotions, from shock or anger to disbelief, guilt, and profound sadness. The pain of grief can also disrupt your physical health, making it difficult to sleep, eat, or even think straight. These are normal reactions to loss—and the more significant the loss, the more intense your grief will be.

How are people affected from grief during the Covid19 pandemic?

This year during the Covid19 pandemic, those grieving at home have endured a myriad of restrictions and limitations that have profoundly affected their grief. The issues around not being able to reach out to family and friends for a much-needed hug and human connection has been incredibly difficult and has caused a great deal of trauma and distress. However, distance should not prevent us from reaching out and sharing our grief.
