Advance your career. Deepen your practice. Support your profession.

Are you a qualified counsellor ready to take the next step in your professional journey?

The Supervision for Counselling Diploma at The Eaves Academy is designed to provide experienced practitioners with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to offer effective, ethical, and reflective supervision to other professionals in the counselling profession.

What You Will Learn

You will explore the core elements essential to becoming a successful supervisor, including:

• Theories and models of supervision
• Ethical and legal considerations
• Reflective practice and self-awareness
• Supervisory techniques and strategies
• Working with supervision groups

This Supervision Diploma is designed to enable you to practice as an effective and ethical Supervisor. The tutor team believe in the importance of good supervision and considers it vital that counsellors wishing to provide supervision should undertake robust training to acquire the additional skills necessary for supervision.

Course Structure and Assessment

The course structure follows the core elements outlined in the BACP Supervision Competence Framework and detailed in the BACP Counselling and Psychotherapy Supervision Training Curriculum. During the course, you will be presented with a variety of models and theories of Counselling Supervision with the aim of you considering them and developing your own ideas as to how you wish to work.

Course Requirements Outside of Weekend Sessions

Students must complete at least 20 hours of supervision practice, working with a minimum of two individuals (not seen as a pair), or one individual and one group. Supervisees should be counsellors or professionals for whom supervision is appropriate.

As an Eaves Academy student, you may advertise for supervisees at a reduced rate within The Eaves.
You are also required to receive at least one hour of monthly personal supervision from a suitably qualified supervisor to discuss your supervisees.

In addition, students should dedicate around 2–3 hours per week (approx. 15 hours per month) to personal study, reading, and assignment preparation. Combined with course attendance and supervision work, this will total over 200 hours of training at Post-Qualification Diploma level.

Assessment includes:

• A reflective essay outlining your personal supervision philosophy and preferred approach, informed by a range of models
• A case study demonstrating your supervisory work and development

Please note: Students are responsible for purchasing their own text books. A reading list is included for your guidance.

Entry Requirements

• Hold a recognised counselling qualification (any modality)
• Be eligible for, or hold a professional accreditation
• Have a minimum of three years post-qualification experience
• Have completed at least 400 clinical hours

Applicants may be working in private practice, the NHS, educational settings, or the voluntary sector. Some may already supervise and wish to consolidate their skills into a recognised qualification. Course places are subject to tutor assessment and final approval.

Whilst we appreciate that students may belong to a variety of professional bodies, this course conforms to the BACP Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professions. Students have a responsibility to ensure they are familiar with this.
