Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is an extreme anxiety disorder that can develop after experiencing or witnessing a very stressful, frightening, or distressing event. People with PTSD often relive the traumatic experience through flashbacks, nightmares, or specific recollections triggered by certain sounds, smells, or situations.
This can lead to strong feelings of distress, isolation, irritability, or guilt, and may affect day-to-day life, including sleeping difficulties and trouble concentrating. Some people may attempt to cope with these intense feelings through alcohol or substance use.
At The Eaves we have practitioners, specifically trained in working with PTSD and Complex PTSD. PTSD is not time-limited and can appear or reoccur, seemingly out of the blue.
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is an anxiety disorder caused by very stressful, frightening or distressing events.
Someone with PTSD often relives the traumatic event through nightmares and flashbacks, and may experience feelings of isolation, irritability and guilt. They may also have problems such as insomnia and find concentrating difficult or possibly an increase in addictive behaviours. These symptoms are often severe and have a significant impact on the person’s day-to-day life.
PTSD can develop immediately after someone experiences a disturbing event, or it can occur weeks, months or even years later and will almost always require specialist psychological intervention to be relieved.
