Random Acts of Kindness Week

By Leonie Roberts, Client Services Administrator at The Eaves

Random Acts of Kindness Week takes place this year from 12th-18th February. It was set up in 1995 by the Random Acts of Kindness Foundation, as a way to celebrate the small things we do that can really make a difference for both the giver and the receiver.

Random Acts of Kindness is the most valuable thing in the world with all cultures and religions respecting it throughout many years of history, this is probably the only thing which will be respected in the future as well. Random Acts of Kindness is often forgotten or neglected in the fast-paced world we live in. However, those small acts of Random Kindness can have a big impact on anybody’s life and can make us all a lot happier than you could imagine.

Here are some examples of random acts of kindness that you may wish to try:

• Support a local business
• Check in on someone who is going through a tough time
• Offer to help an elderly or vulnerable neighbour
• Wish people a good morning/afternoon or evening
• Go outside for a walk and spend time in nature
• Offering your time to homeless shelters
• Volunteering at a local charity
• Call/write/video call to a friend
• Litter picking our beaches/countryside and streets
• Donate to a cause you care about no matter how small your donation might be
• Buy a few extra items during your grocery shop to give to food banks

Acting compassionately:

• Benefits mental health and happiness
• Helps reduce stress
• Improves emotional wellbeing
• Improves support networks
• Improves self-esteem
• Can boost confidence and optimism
• Encourages the receiver to repeat the good deeds they’ve experienced
