SUMMARY:Children Draw and Tell: Projective Tools in Childhood Ego Development
DESCRIPTION:Children are the most authentic people you will ever work with. Their honesty and openness to show and share their inner world through projective drawings allows the practitioner to gain valuable insights into their cognitive\, emotional and physical development. \nThis introductory workshop focuses on the psychological assessment of children aged 4-11\, exploring childhood psychological analysis through drawings. Participants will revisit the work pioneered by Elizabeth Koppitz and others\, gaining valuable knowledge about the stages of ego identity and personality development across early and middle childhood. \nWhat You Will Learn\n\nHow to apply and analyse the Draw a Person Test (DPT)\, Draw a Tree (DT) and the Family Portrait amongst others\nHow children express their inner world through projective drawings\nHow to gain insight into a child’s cognitive\, emotional and physical development through artwork\nThe stages of ego identity and personality development in early childhood and beyond\nHow to explore family dynamics using the Family Portrait drawing\n\nProjective tools when applied correctly as part of a wider psychological assessment will provide incredibly accurate and specific details about a child’s cognitive\, emotional and physical identity as well as how they organise and see the world around them. \nJoin Victoria Karp as she shares 25 years of working as a psychologist and child and adolescent psychotherapist within mental health and private practice. You will look at the hundreds of drawings and the many insights Victoria has gained from her therapeutic application of the meaning behind the picture. \nPresenter\nVictoria Karp is an independent psychologist and integrative child and adolescent psychotherapist. Her professional background is in child and adolescent psychiatry having worked for over 15 years as a CAMHS specialist mental health therapist in Hampshire\, Surrey and London clinics\, specialist schools\, LD teams and private clinics. \nVictoria was the community development manager for the CAMHS primary\, mental health team in Guildford and Farnham winning the Mayor’s Award in 2014 for services to the community. She has mentored and taught psychology students\, trainee therapists\, social workers and psychiatric nurses and has taught on the nursing programme at University of Surrey\, Guildford. \nVictoria’s area of specialism is in attachment theory\, psychological assessment of neurodivergences and creative methods of working with children. She runs a practice in Alton\, Hampshire where she offers individual therapy and assessment to children\, young people and their families.

SUMMARY:Supporting Parents of Neurodiverse Children
DESCRIPTION:This CPD session will provide an introduction to neurodiversity\, focusing specifically on Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and ADHD\, and how these may be experienced and expressed in children. It will explore the wider impact of a child’s diagnosis on family relationships and consider how the realities of raising a neurodiverse child can differ from parents’ expectations. \nThe session will also examine the emotional challenges that parents and carers may face\, including burnout and depression. In addition\, it will discuss the experiences of parents who discover their own neurodivergence later in life\, often following their child’s assessment or diagnosis. The training will conclude by considering how therapists can effectively support parents\, carers and family members navigating these experiences. \nWhat You Will Learn\n\nAn overview of neurodiversity and how it may present.\nA deeper understanding of ASC and ADHD.\nHow a child’s diagnosis can impact the wider family unit.\nThe realities of parenting a neurodiverse child and how these can differ from expectations.\nThe effects of carer burnout and depression.\nThe experiences of parents who receive a later-life diagnosis after their child is diagnosed.\nWays therapists can support parents and family members of neurodiverse children.\n\nPresenter\nElizabeth Loveder is a HCPC registered Dramatherapist who has been working with children and adults with neurodiversity for over 10 years. She has supported both those with a diagnosis as well as individuals and families who are going through the diagnostic process. Elizabeth has 10 years experience in the NHS and is now working with the Eaves.\nDramatherapy is a form of Psychotherapy which focuses on creative communication alongside talking therapy.
