SUMMARY:Adapting Therapy for Neurodivergence
DESCRIPTION:Adaptations to therapy for neurodivergent clients: considering differences in cognitive style\, sensory responses\, social communication difficulties and alexithymia. \nDr Ann Ozsivadjian worked at the Evelina London Children’s Hospital for 16 years\, latterly as the lead clinical psychologist. During her time there she published a number of papers and also developed training programmes for CAMHS staff assessing and treating mental health difficulties in autistic young people. Autistic people are much more likely to experiences anxiety\, depression and other mental health conditions than the non-autistic people. There is now a fairly solid evidence base for treating these conditions with cognitive behaviour therapy\, with adaptations\, and there is an emerging evidence base for other treatment approaches also\, such as ACT and EMDR. \nThis CPD event will equip therapists with knowledge and skills to adapt their therapy approaches to the needs of clients with an established neurodivergent diagnosis\, and also when to consider undiagnosed neurodivergence when working with a client. \nWhat You Can Take Away from This CPD\n\nNeurodivergent Clients: Adapt therapy for clients with diagnosed or undiagnosed neurodivergence.\nMental Health Risks: Autistic individuals are more likely to experience anxiety and depression.\nTherapy Adaptations: Consider differences in cognitive style\, sensory responses\, social communication\, and alexithymia.\n\nPresenting: Dr Ann Ozsivadjian\nAnn is a clinical psychologist with expertise in autism spectrum condition and other neurodevelopmental conditions. She specialises in children and families and also works with young adults. Ann provides therapy and conducts diagnostic assessments in conjunction with colleagues.
